Harper amendment provides tax break for state’s craft distillers 4/13/2012
An amendment that will have a positive, far reaching impact on many sectors of Washington's economy was adopted with the passage of Senate Bill 6635 on Wednesday morning.
Sen. Nick Harper's amendment exempts craft distilleries - small businesses which produce and bottle their own spirits - from a retail license issuance fee of 17 percent on every bottle they sell from their tasting rooms. This is a positive step forward for a growing and potentially lucrative industry in the state.

Pair of public safety-minded Harper bills receive governor’s signature 3/29/2012
A pair of bills aimed at public safety improvements were signed into law Thursday. Senate Bills 6472 and 6296 are both sponsored by Senator Nick Harper, D-Everett.
SB 6472 will help make carbon monoxide alarms more prevalent in Washington homes, while SB 6296 reforms and consolidates portions of the state's criminal background check laws.
