Washington State is leading the way, addressing climate change now. We're reducing emissions, preparing for impacts, and growing a clean energy economy because the impacts go far beyond a change in the weather. Climate shapes every aspect of our lives — ecosystems, crops, water, economy, lifestyles, health — which means that small changes can have big impacts. Our state is vulnerable to a warming climate, especially our snow-fed water supplies and nearly 40 communities along our 2,300 miles of shoreline that are threatened by rising sea levels. In Washington, nearly 50 percent of greenhouse gas emissions come from cars, trucks, planes, and ships. Senate Democrats have been researching and incorporating policies that address how individuals, businesses and government can be a part of emissions reduction and a clean energy economy for today, tomorrow and future generations.
